SUPERVISION AND CONSULTATION

Starting your journey toward licensure or expanding your expertise is a big step, and finding the right supervisor can make all the difference. Supervision isn’t just a requirement—it’s a partnership that shapes your growth, sharpens your skills, and helps you navigate the complexities of clinical work with confidence.

Selecting the right supervisor is a critical step in the development of a therapist. Ensuring compatibility is vital since you'll be investing a significant amount of time with your chosen mentor. You want someone who not only supports you, but aligns with your development goals and areas of interest.

While I'm delighted you've chosen to explore this space with me, it's important to note that I know that I’m not the perfect fit for everyone. This page is designed to help you assess the compatibility of our professional journeys, and to gauge whether we would be a suitable match. As an approved supervisor through the OBLPCT and AAMFT, recognized as an approved supervisor in Washington State, and a Registered Play Therapist- Supervisor™ (RPT-S™) with the Association for Play Therapy, I offer virtual supervision and consultation through a HIPAA compliant platform. If proximity allows, in-person meetings are also an option on occasion. My support extends to developing clinical skills, self-reflection, documentation, procedure streamlining, self-care, professional development goals, exam preparation, and private practice development. I thrive in fostering an active and engaged supervision experience for therapists committed to reaching their full potential.

Supervision Philosophy

My supervision philosophy is collaborative, strengths-based, and reflective, creating a supportive space for growth, self-awareness, and clinical confidence. I encourage critical thinking over just providing answers, helping you refine your clinical voice and decision-making. Balancing structure with flexibility, I guide you through case conceptualization, ethics, documentation, and private practice development while also emphasizing therapist well-being and self-care. Supervision should be more than a requirement—it should be engaging, insightful, and a space where you feel both challenged and supported in becoming the therapist you aspire to be.

Theoretical Orientation & Areas of Expertise

My approach is rooted in a person- and child-centered philosophy, trusting in each individual’s natural drive toward growth and healing. I believe that unconditional positive regard, empathy, and authenticity create the foundation for meaningful therapeutic work. In play therapy, I use both directive and non-directive approaches, tailoring my interventions to what each child needs in the moment. I strongly believe that real change happens within the entire system, not just the child, which is why I advocate for active parent involvement. My work pulls from Attachment Theory, Child-Centered Play Therapy, Adlerian Play Therapy, and Solution-Focused approaches alongside creative interventions like school-based and portable play therapy, experiential techniques, emotional and behavioral regulation strategies, bibliotherapy, and somatic work. My goal is to help children and families feel empowered, finding the right support and adjustments to improve their overall well-being and functioning.

SUPERVISION VS. CONSULTATION

It’s important to understand the difference between supervision and consultation. Supervision involves my legal responsibility for the actions of my supervisees, typically working towards state LPC or LMFT licensure. Consultation, however, provides my guidance without legal liability, offering mental health professionals advice, the sharing of my experiences and expertise.

Consultation is held on an as-needed basis (though it can be held more consistently and frequently, depending on your needs) and is an excellent way to grow and serve your clients. Tailored to your needs, supervision and consultation are valuable resources and offer the opportunity to acquire new skills. The nature of our collaboration determines whether it falls under supervision or consultation.
